The Gamecube is totaly worth it but probably not 89 for the console + a controller, I would recommend buying one of the bundles off Gamestop since for 11 or so dollars more you can get 3 or so more games.
The wii plays gamecube games out of the box, has plenty of cheap component options, and also plays wii games..
